Project Description

This project consisted of taking a grand dame in the historic district of Easton, MD and making it a home suitable for 21st century entertaining. First, ill-conceived later additions were either reconfigured or removed altogether. Second, the project added new spaces and enlarged others to make a more cohesive composition with far better flow between each. Third, we added appropriate detailing and trim work to both the interior and exterior spaces, creating fresh, light-filled moments for living.

Moving the kitchen from the main house block to an existing rear addition allowed for both greater expansion of the kitchen and better use of the existing space as an adjacent wine room. Adding a roof monitor in the kitchen and family room gives the north facing shared space soft overhead light during the day and adds a touch of drama in the evening utilizing LED cove lighting. The new screened porch on the north side balances the existing sunroom on the south. A new first floor bedroom suite allows for greater flexibility with guests as does a new granny flat added to the basement. A new large two car garage addition and multiple butler’s pantries provide ample storage space and access for catering.

Both interior and exterior spaces are designed with entertaining in mind. New landscaping, hardscape areas and indoor-outdoor access allow both to come together seamlessly. Whether the homeowner is alone or surrounded by friends and family, this home captures both their spirit and energy and gives them a place to truly live.
